RTA in collaboration with Emaar started running trials for the first autonomous 10-seater car shuttling over a 700-meter long track at the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.
Dubai plans are for 25% of all trips to be self-driving by 2030. This goal was set after Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Dubai Smart Self-Driving vision in 2016.
The self-driving strategy developed by the Roads and Transport Authority will mean people will in future be able to plan trips using their phone.
The future plan of automatizing travel in Dubai, will also reduce the cost of travel, minimise pollution and significantly increase road safety.
